On Tuesday 18th August, Clare PPN got some local musicians and singers together to chat about musical culture and share their favourite songs for National Heritage Week 2020. At the end of June, we put out a notice of election for vacant positions on the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) of Clare County Council. The LCDC comprises Council officials, elected Councillors and various business and community representatives. Among other things, the LCDC has the job of developing and overseeing the community elements of the six-year Local Economic and Community Plan.
We were thrilled with the nominations we got from social inclusion groups and environmental groups across the county and we are delighted to announce the following successful candidates.
Cornelia Wahli of Clare Environmental Network has been elected to the LCDC to represent the Environmental college of Clare PPN. Cornelia has a background in education and permaculture design. On the LCDC, she would like to be a voice for the natural world, a healthy and nurturing environment capable of feeding and supporting humans as well as fauna and flora, with sustainable development a core value. Dermot Hayes of Clare Leader Forum has been elected to the LCDC to represent the Social Inclusion college of Clare PPN. Dermot brings a wealth of experience to the role, having spent decades advocating for people with disabilities. His passion for human rights includes the issues faced by asylum seekers and the Traveller community. For more information, click HERE.

At the end of June, we put out a notice of election for various positions on the Clare PPN secretariat. The Secretariat manages the activities of the Clare PPN at a County level. The members of this group are independent of the County Council and are elected by the members of the PPN. Every group that joins the PPN has a vote and is able to nominate candidates for these and other positions. We were thrilled with the nominations we got from community groups, social inclusion groups and environmental groups across the county this time around and we are excited to announce the following successful candidates:
Dermot Hayes of Clare Leader Forum was elected to the Secretariat to represent Ennis Municipal District. Dermot brings a wealth of experience to the role with decades of experience in activism and advocacy for people with disabilities. Kay Murphy of Shannon Active Retirement was elected to represent Shannon Municipal District. Kay brings excellent organisation skills and energy to the role as befitting her position as National President of Active Retirement Ireland. A founding member of Obair Newmarket on Fergus, she is a doer with a passion for social inclusion. For more information, click HERE
Monica McKenna of West Clare Mental Health was elected to represent to community and voluntary sector. Monica is a community worker who is passionate in working for social justice and equality. Monica is an active member of a number of groups including West Clare Mental Health Association. For more information, click HERE
Elaine D’Alton of Clare Women’s Network was elected to represent social inclusion. Elaine is the coordinator of the Clare Women’s Network, which is part of the National Collective of Community Based Women’s Networks (NCCWN). She believes that representation specifically pertaining to the needs of women is an imperative. For more information, click HERE

A meeting was scheduled online to discuss how to score the 2nd tranche of funding applications, as a physical meeting was not advisable due to lockdown.
List any decisions made at the meeting:
The online meeting with the technical and investment committee went through how to fill in and score the 5 page scoring sheets for each project for the next tranche of projects, this was envisaged to be very time consuming and we were given 3 weeks to score and return sheets.
