Dermot Hayes from Clare Older People’s Council wants to call for your support for this petition which was instigated by one of their members.

The petition attempts to draw attention to the effects that recent severe hikes in insurance premiums are having on older people. Clare Older People’s Council have highlighted that many older people are dependent only on their state pension and that when coupled with the various austerity measures already inflicted on this demographic the hikes in insurance costs may serve to put many older people off the road.

This would risk increasing their isolation and would compromise their independence. Whilst the COPC acknowledge that raised insurance costs affect all ages they want to draw the Minister Shane Ross’s attention to its effects on older people in particular.  Please sign their petition here https://my.uplift.ie/petitions/car-insurance-unfair
