Don’t miss your chance to vote! The deadline to register is just days away

With a General Election just around the corner, Clare PPN urges people to go to checktheregister.ie

A General Election is just around the corner, but if you’re not registered to vote, you can’t have your say! The deadline to register to vote is almost certain to be on Tuesday 12th November, according to Clare Public Participation Network (PPN), which is leading a voter registration drive in the Banner County this week.

Clare PPN co-ordinator Sarah Clancy said: “It’s definitely no longer a secret that the Government is planning to hold a General Election on Friday, 29th November, and that the Taoiseach is going to announce it later this week.

“Less well-known is that the deadline for registering to vote will come around very quickly after Simon Harris calls the election. Assuming the election is set for 29th November, then the deadline for registering to vote will be next Tuesday, 12th November.

“If you’re an Irish or British citizen, over the age of 18 and living in Ireland you can vote in the General Election. Registering to vote is quite easy to do online at checktheregister.ie – all you need is your date of birth, PPS number, Eircode and email address.

“And of course, if you previously registered to vote, you can use checktheregister.ie to check that you’re still on the electoral register.

“Don’t miss your chance to have your voice heard in this election.”

If you have changed your name and/or home address, you can update your details at checktheregister.ie, which also has other useful information.

Finally, if you’re already registered to vote in Co Clare but can’t find yourself on the register, you should email register@clarecoco.ie before submitting another registration.

Clare PPN and 10 other community organisations in Clare have come together for this voter registration drive with the support of Clare County Council. They are running a social media campaign and will be leafleting in several towns across Clare this Friday, 8th November.

The other groups involved are: Clare Immigrant Support Centre, Clare Leader Forum, Clare Local Development Company, Clare Solidarity Network, Clare Sports Partnership, Clare Traveller CDP, Clare Volunteer Centre, Quare Clare LGBTQ+, West Clare Family Resource Centre and Women’s Collective Ireland – Clare.

* According to the Citizens’ Information website, you must register to vote “at least 15 days before an election or referendum (excluding Sundays, Good Friday and public holidays). If it is received on or after 14 days before an election or referendum is taking place, you will not be registered to vote in that election or referendum.”
